3 megapixels, I don't know what they are talking about. Perhaps the maximum size file the printer they are using can take as input, perhaps Costco? (BTW, Costco can do some good printing if you get you're stuff to match their printer configuration).
I will also not criticize anyones sincere effort to communicate. And Lords knows I will never criticize anyones spellign
But I am happy to criticize writing style when it is obvious that they do not care about what they are doing. And do not care about communicating with their audience. But do care only about how easy it is for them to scribble something out. If backwell wants to be a respected member of the English speaking world and business world (apparently he/she is in the USA, Georgia), they can at least show the minor effort required to use the capital "I", end sentences with a ".", and begin a new sentence with a capital letter. Is that asking too much? Here, now, this place, is the right time to start practicing and learning this. But it is obvious that blackwell is concerned about only one thing. And that is, writing in 6 year old scribbles. And blackwell may indeed be 6 years old, and if you are sonny, listen to your old grandpa, now is the time to put some of that schooling to practice. Someday (and rather soon) you will be glad you did.
Other than that , I can only say that I will not respond further to any of blackwell's posts.

to tooafricamad, I think about this every day. I was discussing over dinner tonight with my husband Tom about me being born in the wrong century. I can see myself as a Karen Blixen, Elsbeth Huxley or Cynthia Moss. I would move to Africa right now if I didn't have Tom and the three kids. He says "and to do what?" Damn if I know, anything! Are you hiring a good agent, Mark? I know my stuff!
On the topic, I have an FZ20 and an FZ30. I couldn't think of a better camera. The FZ50 isn't enough for me to upgrade to, but maybe the next upgrade. I noticed the "noice" shooting at 400 ASA and yes it was annoying! I won't use that setting again!

Sorry Blackwell, but somebody was pulling your leg. Any decent photo printing company will use the full resolution of your image to do the printing.
You may be confused eith the, of-quoted, rule that one needs to print at around 300 dots per inch to get a decent result. With your 3MB images that'll work out to an image size of around 7"x5". But 300 dpi is a minimum one should be aiming for. Many printers can do much better - thus taking advantage of all those extra meggypixels.

safarimama, one very big advantages a DSLR has over the FZ30 or Canon S2/3 or other such super zoom cameras is the capability to shoot at ASA/ISO 400 or 800 with really nice clean noise free images (comparatively). This is because the light sensor size in the DSLR is several times larger than the ones used in super zoom compacts. The larger the sensor the more total light energy hits it and thus cleaner individual pixels.
That's the good news. The "bad" news about DSLR is that because of this larger sensor the lens needs to also be several times larger for the same zoom effect.
