In researching have found that we would not be able to purchase any duty free liquor (amarula) once past security at the airport due to Kenya regulations even though we are flying home on BA. What is the best way to get liquor home? Hesitate to pack it in checked baggage due to possible breakage. Any suggestions out there?? Thanks.

I purchased duty free airside at NBO on my way to the Seychelles and carried it on board in a sealed bag. I was flying Kenya Airways.

It's possible that there may be specific restrictions pertaining to BA or UK bound flights that don't allow sealed duty free on board. I haven't looked into this.

And if you're transiting LHR, then you won't be able to take it through UK security so it's a moot point whether you can get it on board at NBO.

you should be able to buy liquor duty free as long as you fly point to point. in case you change flights within uk then you would have to litter it before boarding the connecting flight.

amarula by the way is cheaper in austria and germany than in south africa itself. so maybe check whether it's worthwile at all.

Amarula is so easily available world wide these days. Don't bother carrying it all the way back!

I've carried a bottle of Kenya Cane or two in the past in my checked baggage, first wrapped in newspaper, then in clothes....

I wouldn't buy at the airport if I can avoid it. It's usually over priced generic rubbish.

However I usually get a bag or two of the Ethiopian Gourmet Blend Java Coffee.

I forgot that I couldn't carry liquids, and ended up packing my bottle of amarula in my checked luggage (wrapped carefully in my seat cushion!). It arrived safely, but I would have been better off buying it at home -- I didn't realize that it was easily available in NY.

Where do you live? It might not be worth while carrying it even if you are allowed to.
