dress code for safari

We are going to Rattrays camp in Mala Mala in March and are unsure about what people wear in the evening for dinner. We understand its long trousers for men.
thanks

Hi barbroy

I was at Rattray's in December and I certainly wore long jeans to dinner with a t-shirt - the only reason being to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.

In March I would again wear long pants, simply because of the mozzies. I am sure if you wish to wear reasonable shorts and shirt, that would be fine.

Kind regards

Kaye

We were at Rattray's not so long ago, and i definitely recommend as Kaye mentions, jeans or trousers. But, i would definitely recommend you take a nice shirt or two to wear at dinner - that's what i did!

thanks. What about the girls - are long skirts or summer dresses overdoing it for dinner!

Also any advice on anti mozzies. We use deep woods Deet in the Caribbean but they still seem to get us!

regards

Hi Barb

As luck would have it, I am a girl! I would certainly not wear a dress that left my legs or arms bare, because of the mozzies.

I myself think that women in dresses look out of place, but that is only my opinion.

I have caught a mozzie related disease in Africa in the past, so I am very careful - and I would lightly spray my arms with the mozzie repellent they provide in the rooms.

Kind regards

Kaye

We did see some of the younger gals in cute slip-dresses for dinner - surprising, considering it was early-Dec when it's quite humid - mossie weather. But they said they spread repellent on all exposed skin.

Still, if you want to wear something other than safari tan for dinner, consider a pair of slacks and a nice sweater with colorful scarf or interesting chunky jewelery. Arms and legs will be covered.
