Ndutu next month
I was on safari last month in Tanzania and Kenya - trip report coming soon! I spent four days in the Ndutu area and it was wonderful. I have never seen so many animals in one place and the photo ops were fantastic. Before I left, I was already planning to go back in 2009.
However, I have a chance to go back next month for a week to ten days, spending most of the time in the Ndutu area. This would be around mid-March.
What do you Fodorites think? Is this still a good time to view the migration? What is the weather typically like in March?
Would appreciate some feedback. It's a bit crazy to be going back so soon, but I would love to.

I've been to Ndutu twice in late January and will be there soon in late Feb - early March ... also in 2006 we did an early April trip but were advised to bypass Ndutu as it could be too wet (rainy season) and most likely the wildies would be north of Naabi Hill by then, so we spent a week around Seronera. As it turned out the wildies/zebras had not migrated far from Ndutu and were still south of Naabi, most likely because it had been very dry earlier and that grassy area greened up late. I wish we had spent 3-4 days at Ndutu that April (Francisco Ahedo - Paco - was there April 2006 and got some really nice images).
No one really knows precisely where the massed migration will be at any given time (generally yes, precisely no) but staying at Ndutu and having the option of straying a bit north a couple of days should be as wise a guess as you could make. That's surely what I would do (we'll be leaving there 10 days before you might arrive), with 4 days at Ndutu, 3 a bit north in Serengeti, then back to Ndutu for 3 more days (the travel days will let you cover most of the accessible short-grass plains).
Is this still a good time to view the migration?
The herds will still be on the short-grass plains where it's easy to see them, so YES. But there's a chance they might be north of Ndutu.
What is the weather typically like in March?
At some point the heavy rains will start, usually mid-to-late March. Maybe early this year? We were in Masa Mara recently and had more rain there in late January than we did in April 2006 in Serengeti though.
It's a bit crazy to be going back so soon, but I would love to
Go for it! You'll be glad you did.
