Does anyone have any information about the new Rocktail Bay Camp?
We have 7 nights in KZN in August and were considering spending 2 of them at Rocktail Beach Lodge, but I found an earlier post by Julian which mentioned that Wilderness Safaris (or a sub branch of them) was opening Rocktail Beach Camp in December. I've read thje information on the Wilderness site, but it is still saying that the Camp is due to open on 15th December and the information provided does not appear to have been updated recently. Does anyone have any additional information about this Camp ?
Also, is late August a good or bad time to make the most of what Rocktail Bay has to offer (Lodge or Camp) ?
Thanks.

I stayed at Rocktail Bay Lodge in Sept 05, it was owned by Wilderness at that time, and had a wonderful, secluded beach location, but the camp was in the forest, about a 5-7 minute walk from the beach. You could walk for miles on the beach without coming into contact with another soul. Just wonderful location. Incredible birds, no predators, horseback outing, villager outing, scuba and snorkelling available. We had a great time! Food was great, lots of South African guests and Europeans visiting while we were there- very private place- hammocks throughout the camp so you could just enjoy the location, small pool. It sounds like Wilderness sold it, and they are marketing it as a more family oriented location.

Rocktail Bay is still WS, look at the Rocktail Bay Lodge website, www.rocktailbay.com. Rocktail Bay Camp is a new camp run by Safari Adventure Company (www.safari-adventure-company.com), a sister company of WS.
Btw, the new www.rocktailbay.com website (broadband section still under construction) gives a good preview of what to expect from the new WS web appearance. I like this much more than the current WS website which IMHO has the charm of a Starwood or Kempinski website.

Gaynor,
Nicky visited the camps last month (May) and had positive comments. They stayed at the Lodge, but she did check out the newer SAC camp as well.
The SAC camp is a bit further from the water and a more economical option in the same environment.
