Love the pictures, Dennis! You have some great oryx, so many secretary birds (i've only seen a couple without good pictures - and certainly not flying!). Loved the muddy lions, sunsets, bat-eared fox (I've only seen one at night), the bateleur eagle. And the the footsteps in the sand with the grasses is very cool.
Looks like you had a wonderful trip and I look forward to hearing all about it.

Thanks for posting Dennis - great shots that give a good sense of place.
Were you being guided when you found the lion print and the lions or did you run into them yourselves? If yourselves, good guiding.
I look forward to hearing the stories behind your pictures.
Sherry

Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked the pics.
cw~first cheetah sighting EVER!
lynn~I thought they were topis, but according to my animal book they are Hartebeest, as the horns have a sharp curve backwards as opposed to straight back or slightly upward. I was hoping they were topi to show Nyamera, but no such luck!
cybor~we found the lion print and the lions by ourselves...no guide. We were the only ones in that part of the park for 2 days, so the tracks were very fresh and easy to spot.
Leely~there was almost a gin catastrophe when my Capital One card was declined at the bottle shop in Upington (and I did call and tell them I would be in S.A.) but luckily I had my ATM card!
Province~only saw 1 cape cobra and it was in a secretary birds mouth. The only other snake we saw was an adder crossing the road, but he/she was too fast for a pic.

Those are great -- I don't think I saw a living bat-eared fox during the day, but I did see lots at night, and way too many dead ones on the road from Upington.
I didn't see any lions in Kgalagadi -- looks like you saw several.
And I think the giraffes are fairly rare -- a very tough environment to be a giraffe.
I'm visiting a US desert tomorrow, Saguara National Park (I'm in Tucson now), and hope to see some wildlife.

Finally had time to view your pics, and they were all GREAT! Great close-ups, you have a good eye for interesting pictures... sunsets, sand, etc. The bird with the bug in it's mouth was excellent... they were all so good, it would be hard to pick the best. But, it looks like you had a good time and saw lots of wildlife. I'm jealous... maybe someday I'll get there. The Gemboks have such unique markings, they are really pretty. Anxious to read your report.

Hi Dennis,
wonderful photos, thanks for sharing. I particularly liked the mongoose and squirrel standoff and the bateared fox with lowered ears. Also some good pictures of camps that will be useful for planning my next African trip.
Look forward to the report,
Pol

Hi Dennis
Really enjoyed your photos - such a variety of wildlife you saw! Loved the birds, also how the jackals seemed to be in so many photos. I also loved the mongoose looking right at you. Aren't the horns of the Hartebeest odd?
Really your very first cheetah? That is amazing!
You did seem to see a lot in a shortish time period in what looks to be pretty hostile environment!
Kind regards
Kaye
