Would appreciate any ideas for day trips or overnight trips from Sharm el-Sheikh. Any thoughts on getting to the pyramids from here would also be helpful. Know this is vague, but am open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance. Peggy

If you're willing to spend the money (about $80 each way per person) it would be easy to fly from Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo, take a day tour of the pyramids, sphinx, etc., and return. You can drive, but I think it's about 6 hours each way (?).

Do not even attempt to drive to Cairo!!! If you want to see the pyramids - do as dmlove suggests and fly. Easy.

As for other trips - St. Catherine's Monastery/Mt. Sinai is popular as are desert safaris. I am not sure if it is possible to fly directly from Sharm to Luxor - but that would definitely be worth the trip (going thru Cairo would be too grueling unless you plan on spending the night in Luxor).

You could also fly directly to Luxor, but flights do not go every day of the week. No pyramids there, but many antiquities -

And then there's Mt. Sinai and St. Catherine's monastery, a 2-3 hour drive from Sharm.
