Day trip from Fes? Chefchaouen?
A young lady who became something of a mentee when I was last there, insists that Chefchaouen is an easy 3 1/2 hour drive and that we could do it for an overnight or day trip (I'm not that young anymore) Old posts here seem to say it is much worse.
Anyone with RECENT experience? Say in the last 3 years or so?
Other day trip ideas? I will have just come from Rabat. Ideas of a good place to go with someone who is a native?
Is Meknes lovely? What about the other surrounding towns?
Any secret gems hidden away?
thanks!

Chefchaouen is not a three and a half hour drive from Fez.
It certainly isn't a day trip, when you actually sit down and do the detailed timing you'll realise how little time you would have there.
The only viable solution is an overnight trip. But personally I'd head in the opposite direction and spend less than half the travel time to visit Azrou with its Tuesday weekly market, wild monkeys, volcanoes, springs, lakes, cedar forests... But I'd still recommend that as an overnight trip.
