We know it will be cold in the morning and at night but approx what temps will it be in the day time. Will we need T.shirts and shorts?
Thanks

Hi kimac

It will be freezing in the morning and evening! The middle of the day can be warm enough for shorts and a t-shirt or jeans and a t-shirt, if luggage is not an issue, I would pack a pair of shorts.

Kind regards

Kaye

I recommend layers so you can peel them off as the sun comes up on your morning game drives. I wore a hat and mittens in the morning and by noon I was in shorts sitting by the pool. The water in the pool was definitely too cold to swim in by the sun was warm as I relaxed and wrote in my journal. Then I would start the evening game drive with just t-shirt and pants and end up with a fleece and jacket on by the time we returned. I brought zip-off pants so that I could have them be either. That helped with the space issue. And you will be able to get clothing laundered at most of the lodgings so you can pack pretty light and just wear the same two or three outfits all the time.

Jcasale, regarding your fleece and jacket combo, did you need a down jacket or windbreaker type jacket over the fleece?

Thanks everyone. Any idea of the temps in the day? Being Australian 20 is cold for me but my English friend thinks that is summer weather!

Hi Kimac

I'm from Brisbane and I find the early morning and late afternoon gamedrives freezing - in an open vehicle with the chill factor. Not being in a vehicle the temp during the day would be anywhere from 12 to 24 depending on sun, wind etc. At night I often wear just a long sleeved t-shirt and have a light jacket.

But do not underestimate how cold it can be in the vehicle - I was there in Dec 07 and we both had 4 layers including a thick fleece and I was just comfortable and that was in their summer!

During the day around camp I would normally have on jeans, T-shirt and maybe a light cotton jumper.

Kind regards

Kaye
