Dar Seffarine

A few travellers have mentioned visiting Dar Seffarine in Fes (which I found is a hotel) - before I make a reservation, what is so special about this place?

It cost 50euros for a single room with a minimum of 2 nights...I have 24 hours to book it. Typically, I spend under $30CAD for a room...I am willing to splurge if it's really all the hype....thanks!

From what I managed to find out - it's a 700 year old palace that was restored by a foreign couple (Iraq and Norway). I made the reservation because they book up really fast - I have heard only good things about it, so why not?

A regular here, Clifton, stayed there in April and just raved about it. He said the owner managers were wonderful, the rooms huge and beautiful and he really liked it. I know he reviewed it here, and he also wrote about it over on another travel board called Travelers To Go.

Totally worth it! Gald you signed up. Kate and Alaa are great people and we really liked them. Cool, young but they allow you your privacy too. The place is awesome to look at, restored completely with 18 foot ceilings, giant double doors. A lot of places post pics to make the place look better. Their pics don't do it justice.

The rooftop has what has to be the best view in Fez. Almost a 360 degree view of the medina from your comfy seat as you listen to the calls to prayer start circling you from all the minarets. Really something. Do take up on the invite to sit in on dinner one night. Their cooks are excellent and a little experimental. Also ask Alaa about the house. He move to Fez from Iraz and he's the architect that handled it's 2 year renovation piece by piece.

We were there the same time that Clifton was there and also really loved it. We lucked out with a tour bz the owner which was spectacular.

It is actually a low price for a place so special in Fez. If you go too cheap in Morocco, you might get sick or lice.

This happens to be cheap and special.

There is more on our blog in the archives under Morocco ( we are still traveling and in Croatia at the moment):

Are you talking Morocco with the 30 a night?

We found lodging MUCH more expensive than other places ( like Turkey, Croatia, Greece etc).

The riad experience is something special tho and should be experienced to understand Morocco.

You will not find a better riad than Dar Seffarine ( many not half as good cost twice as much).

If and when we return to Fez which is the best city in Morocco...we will stay again at Dar Seffarine. We were impressed with the beauty, love and passion the owners have and what they have created.

You made the right choice!!
