The waiting is the hardest part.

I have been reading this forum for a while - lots of great information! I just got back from my second trip booked through Julian Harrison at Premier Tours in Philadelphia (I highly reccomend them). This year we went to Botswana - Savuti, Kwetsani and Mombo, and Little Kalala in Namibia. Another great trip! We usually do not use tour operators (i.e. to New Zealand,Europe)But thought it makes sense for Africa - any opinions? Can you book Wilderness Safaris with out and agent?

Last year we went to the Capetown area, then Zambia (Royal Livingstone, which I do not reccomend)and Singita

Darien, I will be at Kwetsani in 6 weeks. What did you think of the camp? We are staying at the River Club in Zambia, but I would like to know why you didn't like the Royal Livingston. What activities did you do while you were in Victoria Falls?

Raelond, we loved Kwesani - lots of water! The only downside was the couple who were the managers - fortunately, they have left the Wilderness group. Our guide (Vundi) was great.

The Royal Livingstone was like Disneyland on the Zambezi - and, the food was very expensive, complicated, and not very good. They have you because there is no where else to go!
Also - a glass of wine was more expensive than the whole bottle in SA

We loved the trip to the elephant center and the elephant ride. We also flew in the microlights - great view once I opened my eyes!

I leave for my first trip to Africa in 25 days, 14 hours, 35 minutes and 25 seconds!

Depart Chadds Ford, PA on Thursday, June 8th for Dulles - Amsterdam - Kilimanjaro

12 days Kilimanjaro Region
Getting together with and old friend and her local friends: we will visit Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Gibbs Farm and many up close and personal local places and homes.

My husband thought I was going to have a cup of coffee with my friend in South Central PA somewhere along Interstate 81 as she passed through near my area but…

Since I came all this way, it seemed silly to leave Africa after only 12 days! So I thought I would be brave and stay a little longer on my own…

7 days Fly-camping Safari Serengeti with KiliWarrior Expeditions
I will be picked up by the KiliWarriors in Karatu then drive to the Serengeti following the wild critters around the Seronera and Lobo areas, 1 night at Lake Manyara then to Kia Lodge.

4 Days Rwanda KiliWarrior Expeditions and Great Lakes Safaris
Depart Kilimanjaro - Nairobi - Kigali to PNV Gorillas Nest Hotel: Gorilla Trekking 1 day for sure-will try for a second then back to Kigali - Nairobi - Kilimanjaro - Amsterdam - Dallas to Home Sweet Home.

To all of you leaving soon, have fun. I'm an August departure to Botwsana--Duba Plains, Vumbura, Zibalianja.

PATTY, you ARE going back again. Your accountant must be your hero. What parks or camps in your itinerary are returns? I believe I detect some repeats.

Lynn,
Good memory! El Karama and Olea Africana are repeats, the rest are new. I posted a more detailed itinerary at the bottom of this thread (which now needs a new title ) http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34781265

I am waiting for all these trips to materialize and be converted into trip reports and picture presentations.

It's a bit slow on the boards at the moment........

4 months and 15 days...Very excited that I was able to get a ticket yesterday back to Africa this year using frequent flier miles....leaving October 15 for Ethiopia. Still working on my itinerary (not using a tour operator) but the rough plan is to spend 12 days in Ethiopia, 2 weeks in Egypt and then on to Lebanon and Syria until I fly home from Damascus on November 30th.

Hi everyone -

I will be leaving in 10 days and I can't wait! The first 3 weeks will be a camping tour through Southern Africa, followed by 2 more weeks in South Africa. Here's my itinerary:

Days 1-4: Capetown
Days 5-16: Travel throughout Namibia
Days 17-19: Okavango Delta
Days 20-21: Continue through Botswana
Days 22-24: Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Day 25: Johannesburg
Days 26-38: Mpumalanga doing veterinary work and learning conservation medicine

Thanks to everyone for all their help in getting ready to leave!!! Now, if I could only motivate myself to actually take the lists of what to pack and put it all into my duffle bag (10 days to go means 8 days of procrastination, 1 day of packing, and 1 more day of wondering whether I forgot something or not...).

Have a great trip everyone!!!

My Africa countdown is at 45 days to Botwsana.

In the meantime, I am very excited to be leaving tomorrow for China to see my pen pal that I first met 18 years ago in Guangzhou. We've been corresponding ever since. After visiting with her, I am volunteering at the Wolong Panda Sanctuary.

For your trip reports/photo links between now and July 10, could you email them to me also? Don't want to miss them while I'm gone. Thanks!
