Well, I am counting my chickens before they have hatched, but it looks like Tanzania may be back on for late February. Basically, if I cancel with ATR I lose my entire $3,000 deposit since they charge 25% of the total trip rather than 25% of the deposit.
As a result, I will just have to make it work, even it means cancelling my flying lessons that I just paid $5,000 for. Argentina will have to wait for October 2006.
Arusha (3) Mt. Kiliminjaro Half Marathon
Manyara Tree Lodge (2)
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge (2)
Olduvai Camp (1)
Nomad Masek, Serengeti (2)
Nomad Piayaj, Serengeti (2)
Mbuze Mawe, Serengeti (2)
Emerson & Greene, Zanzibar (2)
Palms Zanzibar (3)
126 days and counting...hopefully!
Don't Cry For Me Argentina, I Will Be Just Fine In Tanzania!!!

Sherry,
I would be very interested to hear your comments about Kisima Ngeda camp when you return. I can't answer your Seychelles question, but I'll top your other post so that it doesn't get lost.
BTW the price that you posted, I'm assuming that's for the safari only not including the Seychelles catamaran or flights to Mahe, correct?

Thanks for upping my Seychelles question, Patty, and making the suggestion Leely.
Yes, the 3800. is land only pp USD.probably could have done better. The catamaran trip is around 3300.total for 2 people sharing (not pp) a cabin on a 4 cabin boat, all food etc. is included (no booze except wine with meals) - it's actually kind of a gift (long story). The flights came to 1900. USD and were actually the most difficult thing to plan because you can't fly from Tanzania to Mahe and the flight times/days to get from NBO to Mahe are extremely limited. I've virtually designed my whole itinerary around those flights. I will let you know about the Kisimi Ngeda Camp - it's sounds fabulous - kind of in the middle of nowhere with striking views and with only 4 tents.

Cybor,
Your Seychelles extension sounds very interesting. Do you have a link to a website for the company that is doing the charter?
Also, will you have the boat to yourself (and travel partner)? You mentioned that it has a capacity for four guests, so does this mean you are traveling with another couple or that another mystery couple will be aboard?
The price seems great...I would appreciate any more information that you are able to provide (sleeping quarters, food, drinks, type of boat, whether it is partially participation required or if everything is handled by the charter company).
How much was your actual flight from NBO - Mahe?
Too late for me to consider for my upcoming February/March Tanzania safari but it would be a strong consideration for my next safari and seems just as convenient from either East Africa or Southern Africa.
Thanks.

Hi again Rocco,
After checking numerous ways to get back and forth to the Seychelles by air, I found that going thru Nairobi was the cheapest/easy - Kenya Air 435. USD RT to Mahe. Unfortunetly they only fly back and forth Sun. and Thurs. - it's only a 2hr and 20 min. flight.
We're going with a French co. www.dream-yachtcharter.com for the catamaran charter. Ours is captained and crewed as we're much too lazy to want to work after being on safari. You can however, lease their boats fully or do a partial crew or captained boat. If your really into something spectacular you can lease a very posh yacht from my Newport, RI friend who owns a world wide yacht charter co. that is if you'd like to spend another 95G's or so.
Best;
Sherry

Anybody leaving to Tanzania soon???
I am starting to get anxious and I am still 11+ weeks away. I feel like such a newbie but that is probably because I am so well versed on Southern Africa that I feel like a complete idiot when it comes to East Africa!
