Common Prescription Drugs Illegal in UAE
I am travelling to Dubai on Sunday and am on a variety of antidepressant drugs. Quite by chance I happened to read somewhere that Prozac was banned in UAE and my research has now established that MANY antidepressant, sleeping tablets, HRT, and Codeine is not allowed in the country.
I was surprised that this was not mentioned on this forum and whilst this is my first post wanted to share it with other travellers.
I have checked with the embassies in London and Washington and you need a note from your Doctor stating the following :
: Your Name
: Your Passport Number
: Your Address
: A Statement about your Condition
: How many tablets and what you are carrying
: A prescription
Failure to do this could result in four years imprisonment !!
For more information you can read it on :

Happy Travels..

Then you'd better get your duckies in a row... documentation, documentation!
Though from a friend's experience who visits Dubai regularly and takes many of the drugs you list and then some more, has never been asked "what, why, how much"... no inquiry whatsoever.

While I've flown thru Dubai many, many times, I've only been there 2 times. But neither time was I ever questioned about medication. Actually, I wasn't questioned about anything.
Now - that's NOT saying there isn't some kind of law to this effect, and I guess if you're worried, then better safe than sorry.......but I have never heard anyone talk about it before and I have many friends who go back and forth to Dubai frequently.

Thanks for the kind messages.. I've got the documentation from my Phychiatrist, a fist full of receipts and letter from my phamacist.
Lets hope that Britney Spears who suffers from the same (!) never visits Dubai
If all else fails I'll cry...

My trip went very smoothly, my friends in Dubai arranged for me to be met by a Marahaba Meet and Greet who met me before immigration and walked me through customs and everything.
I was not stopped about my medicines and on the recommendation of the Marahaba did not declare and would only if questioned !
