capetown help!!!
We'll be in Capetown next August before our safari and are looking for a place to stay that's nice but not as expensive as Cape Grace. Has anyone stayed at the Victoria and Alfred or the Welgelegen? Any other suggestions? Also, we're looking for a car and driver to take us on some day trips. Any suggestions about who to contact?
Thanks for the help!

We are spending about 6 nights at Kensington Place next month. It gets wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor.

We stayed at the Cape Cadagon when there in June and we loved it. True it is about 15 minutes from the waterfront, but that was fine. It was in a charming neighborhood, and in the evening when we returned late we could walk around the corner to any one of many local restaurants for dinner. We never needed to change or clean up. The staff is wonderful and we felt like we were in someones home. Look them up on Trip Advisor

I can thoroughly recommend La Spledida at Mouille Point altmanj0909. I stayed there in 04. Nice rooms, comfy beds charming Italian restaurant downstairs. 5 minutes to V&A, city etc. Great view over the ocean or Table Mountain.
Not pricey either. What more could you want?
Here is the link to their web page.

Regarding the car and driver--if you'd like true guide, you might take a look at Selwyn's web page at ilovecapetown.com. Selwyn has contributed hours and hours to this board helping Fodorites fine tune their SA itineraries, and you would be in the best of hands. Selwyn, in fact, is now among the three finalists in the Wanderlust competition which seeks to recognize the "best tour guide in the world". The final ceremony will be held in London in early October--the exact time that we had booked with him!! His brother Robert, who is on the same page with Selwyn, will stand in for him as our guide, and we are looking forward to his planning a great Cape Town and environs experience for us.
