Cairo attractions

We have an extra half day in Cairo. What is there to see besides the usuals (Egyptian museum, Giza, bazaar) which will be included on our tour. If you had a half day to see something different what would it be? Thanks

A few typical ideas off the top of my head (not sure they count as "something different though):

Cairo Tower
Explore Islamic Cairo
Felucca trip on the Nile
The Citadel
Coptic Cairo

Many tours cover Coptic Cairo and visit a mosque - if they don't add these. Just walking thru streets of Cairo is an experience - many shops, lots of insistent merchants - you get to hear all sorts of great stories about why you simply "must" shop in a specific shop. (Watch out for insane Cairo drivers when crossing the street - worst city in the world for drivers!)

Definitely for history and the unexpected take the metro to the old Coptic part of Cairo.

Else head off to the bazaar areas and just wander.

We just returned. Would definately add Coptic Cairo and the Citadel (this is where the Mohammed Ali Mosque is - built after the Blue Mosque in Turkey). We had a great time at these sites.

Cairo drivers are the best drivers in the world! They are psychic. Crossing the street--like your mother always said, walk don't run. I find the experience similar to dropping into a double overhead wave.

If its operating, I would suggest visiting the Camel Market, about 20 minutes from central Cairo. You'll get some amazing photos, and its a lot more interesting than seeing more mosques, etc. Any taxi driver will know where it is.

The citadel is definitely worth the trip. I'd also recommend a felucca trip on the Nile - very relaxing!
