Botox in Johannesburg
Hi,
I am a flight attendant and often stay in the Sandton area of Johannesburg. I have been told how much cheaper it is to have Botox done in South Africa. Can anyone recommend anywhere??
Thanks
Sally

Hi Sally
Have never seen this question before. Although I know nothing about this procedure, I would suggest that cheaper is not always better. I would be going to someone that friends had recommended as doing a good job, especially being a flight attendant where I am guessing that your appearance is part of your job.
Kind regards
Kaye

Many people travel to South Africa for cosmetic surgery - face lifts, nose jobs, body scupturing, fillers as: botox, juvaderm, restalyn, perlayne (sp). At the current exchange (USD/ZAR) such procedures are quite advantageous for Americans. Likewise, people travel to Thailand, Colombia and Costa Rica for medical procedures with much success.
I wouldn't consider out-of-country procedures without lots of investigation - a Google search will bring up lots of information of docs in the JNB area, buthow reputable? Who knows. And, until you actually write to a particular surgeon, will you receive prices and other info.
The Private Surgeries in South Africa are supposed to be excellent, but you've got to do your research; better yet, get a referral.
I've noticed that prices per unit for Botox (what's their unit vs unit in the US, beats me) appear to be lower than what is charged here (NYC, at least), but not sure how they compare to other areas in the US.

For what its worth surgical safaris are big business, and managed very very professionally.
There is little more to fear from a South African surgeon than any other surgeon in the first world.
I think that there is a miss-perception that Medical services have collapsed in South Africa, however this is not the case with private medical practitioners and private hospitals.

I've had botox in the Durban area several times and paid 2500R for 40 units so it definitely was cheaper. I have also had photo pulse dye laser in durban for the ridiculous cost of $85 and am returning in a few weeks for Fraxel for about the $150. (Is $1500 in the U. S.) I don't know people in
Joburg however but ask a few well heeled ladies and you will get an answer. I don't go to SA just for this but it is a nice add on!

Sure is a nice "add-on" - good for you.
Curious, 40/units = ?/ml per unit? If you know.
I have a SA list of prices for various procedures as well as these fillers - Botox, Juvederm, Restalyn - based on "units" but no indication as to value/size of said units.

I had extensive cosmetic surgery in Cape Town in '08 and I can tell you without reservation it is so worth it. For less than the price of mid face lift here, I got full face, neck, brow lift, overnight in the medical facility and than 10 days in a luxury home with a person catering to my every whim 24/7. The surgeon and his staff were awesome..I say all this to encourage anyone who is considering medical travel...the website I finally used is www.plastic-and-surgery.com

SPOOKY to me.
It's a hell of a risk in a home country let alone in a country on another continent.
Why on Earth would one pay for getting mask like face without emotion is beyond me.
But dealing with all risks involved via a 8000 km distance is quite brave
The cheap job might come out very expensive (in any country) not to mention the result to be carried around........

oops - you should also consider IF a job has been done perfectly ONES it might come out differently, very differently in your face!
You deal with the risks involved with the surgeon's "condition of the day", yours and all sorts of circumstances which might have an influence on to the outcome! It's everybody's specific features and nature you are dealing with - and one's isn't the other's.
