You saw the wolf, Sundowner--way to go! Great bears as well.
I believe I recognize the terrain as Brooks Lodge.

Sundowner--one day and one wolf. You are a lucky lady. So you flew in for the day, eh?
Wanted to mention that while Sundowner was able to CAPTURE the abundant bear action at Brooks by camera--and remember this was all in just one day--this type of activity is typical. Most people would see these things (save the wolf) if they spent the day at the falls and the nearby viewing locations. Even if getting the images eludes you, you'd witness these bears. It really is that action-packed.

Hi, Lynn. We did fly in to Brooks for the day (from King Salmon). I went back the next year and didn't see much on the one day we were there because the salmon weren't there yet. I believe you were there 2 or 3 days after I was and you saw a huge amount of bears. And baby bears. And got great pictures.

What were you dates the 2 years you went Sundowner?
I've always stayed 2-3 nts at Brooks Lodge. The one time I did not see much bear activity was during a 3 hour period of very high winds one time. Only 2 subadult bears wandered by the falls. Also early mornings the falls are often empty of bears.

One the variables for the falls is the fishing being done in Bristol Bay. Alaska state officials control when the fishing fleet can take salmon and how much, and on the days when they let the fleet go after the salmon, it's like turning off a spigot at the falls. The bears don't bother showing up on those days.

Don't think there is any way of knowing the days in advance what the fishing schedule is.
Even when the salmon runs are scarce, due to human interference or other factors, there are still bears at the falls, once the day gets underway. Plus there are a couple of other areas that are accessible by platforms for bear viewing.

2010 I arrived in King Salmon on July 9th so we would have gone to Brooks Falls on the 10th. Then on to the lodge on the 11th until July 18th. I believe we only saw one or two bears at the falls. And we didn't see nearly as many up the river either. They said the salmon run was late and the river was extra high and running 7 or 8 mph. THe lodge owner flew his plane up the river to the lake where we saw many the year before and there weren't any up there yet.
2009 we went to the lodge up river first on July 12th and to Brooks Falls probably on July 20th. Flew from King Salmon to Anchorage on July 21st and it was raining and cold. We saw many, many bears at the falls.
