Any advice for single travellers?
Well, as it turns out, it looks like I will be going on my trip to Africa alone. The other person can't make it now.
Are there any suggestions from anyone about doing a safari as a single traveller? Better yet, any other singles planning on going in January? Then neither of us have to pay a single supplement. LOL
Seriously, though, any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks all,
Shane

Where are you planning to go, Shane? Are you looking for a private safari or do you want to go with a group? In southern Africa, Wilderness Safaris has scheduled departures with small groups, usually not more than 6 or 7. Some of them, such as "Migration Routes" in Botswana - dome tents, cots with mattresses and down comforters - don't charge a single supplement. They're a great value and a wonderful wilderness experience.

The plan is Kenya/Tanzania. Was looking at a private, but only because it ended up that way after customizing the itinerary. Not opposed to a small group, at all.
I was under the impression that there's always a single supplement. Good to know that it might not be. Will have to check on that.
Thanks,
Shane

My first safari was alone to Kenya and Tanzania. No one else I knew wanted to go. Been going alone ever since. Bring a book for afternoon down time when you may be alone in your tent/room.
Have you posted your itinerary? Or are you that far along yet?
Group or solo you'll have a wonderful time in Africa.

Atravelynn, that was my thought exactly - alone or not, it will be fantastic. What a great time to just be introspective and enjoy your surroundings.
Don't have any itineraries set yet. Still working with a couple companies to come up with them, especially since the sitch has changed to single traveller. Will update though.

I haven't travelled solo to Africa, but I certainly wouldn't think twice about it. Well, except for the hefty single supplements.
You will have your guide(s) as well as other guests at camps/lodges to talk to if and when you feel like socializing. But the entire experience of an African safari is simultaneously so enthralling and exhausting, you probably won't be lonely.
