Imelda,
Thanks v. much for posting this - I suspect that many people reading this thread signed the petition but just haven't posted here.
I definitely would not have known about it w/o you posting, so thanks.

Hi all - just to let you know I have faxed the reporter who wrote the article in the Anchorage Daily News today. I have informed him that the Brigette Bardot Foundation has already offered (in February 2006) to cover the costs of Maggie's relocation. You can see the BBF article and letter here

I've signed! There are currently 3467 signatures on the petition. The target is 5000. It only takes a minute to sign.
The zoo board meets Tuesday the 5th June to consider Maggies fate (again). Although the petition is not targeted to this date, I imagine the Friends of Maggie are keeping an eye on the petition as one form of pressure in there discussions with the board.
Here is the link to the petition again for all the Fodorites who have yet to sign

I hope tomorrow we can celebrate the boards decision to move Maggie to a sanctuary.

No results yet but this has been posted on the friends of Maggie website. The link at the bottom to photographs taken this weekend say it all I'm afraid.

Thank you Moira! The petition is up to 3511 now. I'm afraid I have no more news on Maggie - I have searched the internet but can't find any update. I'll post as soon as I find anything.

The Zoo Board called a press confernce for 7pm yesterday but then cancelled it - the Alaska Daily news has an update here.
http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/ancho...-8856417c.html
It is obvious theat the Board is more interested in Alaskan opinion - and those of us who live Outside the State have no idea what we are talking about.
Apparently the Zoo will post a media release on their Zoo website sometime today - it is not there yet.

Thanks for posting that Jude.
I had looked earlier on for news but it hadn't been posted yet. It really seems like they are trying to avoid letting Maggie go at all costs. I mean, the guy is saying they aren't going to make a decision until they receive all the reports etc which is fair enough BUT he doesn't even know what reports he's waiting for!!! You'd think with this public outcry he would have at least informed himself of that important information.
I really am hoping and praying that I'm wrong but I have a really bad feeling about this decision - they are not going to let her go lightly.

What amazing news to wake up to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you everyone for signing and e-mailing - you were all responsible for the right decision being made! I was pessimistic last night after reading what they had to say and I'm SO glad I was wrong. I hope that things can move quickly now and that Maggie will be well enough to travel very soon.
Thanks Fodorites - this is the BEST Community!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OnlyMeOirish- thanks for posting the thread in the first place. I'm really glad that you gave us the oppotunity to able to contribute, in some small way, to shortening the list of animals ( particularly elephants) subject to this kind of treatment.
