My friend and I visited Mashatu last year. It was her first safari and she had been very nervous at the idea of staying in any kind of tent. She loved it and had no problems at all.
It can be hot in the tents during the day but there are fans.

IF a camp guarantees a "window seat" there is no need for a SUV.
You might not believe it but amongst our friends who do safaris there is NONE who isn't keen on photography and appreciates a window seat.
Actually that mostly is the very first question one asks before making a decision towards a certain camp/lodge.
They would rather swallow the SUV and shorten the trip than being cramped into a vehicle sitting uncomfortably and having the gear on their laps.

I'd rather get stuck in a window seat occassionally and get to go often (and pay less) than have to put off a safari for a year or two. I don't have a large vacation budget so we do what we can. I'm telling you, we had fun with 10 of us in the truck!!

Its almost like reading one of those Paul Theroux travel books -- reading these posts -- sometimes! Some people really enjoy sharing their experiences with others and some do not. (I can't STAND Paul Theroux when he goes on about how annoying it is to run in to other travelers....)
How you want to enjoy your safari experiences is up to you. This sounds lovely to me
