Leesburg, VA to Washington, D. C.

I will be in Leesburg in a couple of weeks and would like to go into Washington for the day. I have been looking at maps and metro, etc., but I can't find the info I need. Can I take the metro from Leesburg into D.C.? I will be staying at the Hampton Inn in Leesburg. Thanks for your help. I love this forum.

Ask at your hotel if they provide a shuttle to Metro. I'm guessing they do not, but they might provide a shuttle to Dulles where you could then take ANOTHER shuttle to Vienna Metro stop.

Sorry- no Metro in Leesburg- the closest one is in West Falls Church near Tysons Corner.

There is a daily bus to DC for commuters- I think it is run by Virginia Transport

If you Google Loudoun County you should be able to find the info

Not only is the closest Metro West Falls Church, but Leesburg is a good half hour or so drive from there (maybe longer) during rush hour.

Bus connections are probably limited only to rush hour going in during the morning and out in the afternoon. You might want to look into just tooling around Leesburg. There is an interesting historic area there. If you want to do DC as well, I would recommend staying over after the conference and moving to a hotel in DC for a day or two.

Just moved to Leesburg and your trip into DC could literally be VERY long depending on when you leave. The Hampton Inn has no shuttle service to Dulles or DC.

Will you have a rental car or are you totally dependent on public transit?

A cab from Leesburg to Dulles (Washington Flyer is the exclusive for pick up at IAD and the only cab company I have experienced) is about $40 one way. There are shuttle buses from IAD to the Metro, but it will take some time to get there.

Whoops! Meant to mention that my personal "best" from Leesburg just to Falls Church (very near that Metro station) is 85 minutes in morning drive time using the Greenway/Toll Road. Weather can be a big factor both sun shine and rain! I second the suggestion to move closer into DC if you want to get the DC experience.

The Leesburg Outlet Mall is great if you are into shopping. I'd drive into DC.
