Upon return from a cruise out of Rome, we will be remaining in Italy for 2 weeks and prefer not to take extra luggage onboard the ship. Is there luggage storage at the port? If not there, how about Termini? Thanks in advance for any help.

I would not try to store it anywhere you were not definitely going to go back to post-cruise. And going back somewhere just to retrieve luggage seems like a waste somehow.

I assume your cruise is leaving from Civitavecchia. I do not know first-hand of anywhere there which stores luggage but that doesn't rule out the possibility of a hotel you stayed in doing it, either in Rome or in Civitavecchia or at Termini. At Termini you would want to do it at the luggage room, I suspect, as opposed to putting it into a locker.

There aren't any lockers at Termini. There is a checked luggage facility. There is also a facility at the airport if you are flying home from FCO (unless current events cause a change). The FCO storage used to be a bit cheaper than Termini.

Yes as whisky points out there no lockers that are used in Rome Termini or any other Italian train station I've been in for years and years now due to domestic terrorism and now foreign too. And lockers typically only store bags for a few days then shove it over to the manual left-luggage counters.

There are now some private luggage storage services in Rome.

One, www.stowyourbags.com is located near Piazza Navona. Basically, they just store your bags, long or short term. They might be useful mostly for someone who arrives in Rome too early to claim their apartment rental in the center of town. They also have a dressing room (to get out of those stinky clothes you wore on the plane) and computer room you can use.

The other one, www.bon-bags.com provides the same storage-only service (from a locatio near Termini station) but will also pick up your bags at the hotel, airport, or train station, and, at the designated time, deliver them to you at a hotel, airport, or train station. They sound more geared to someone like jcrp, who is really making two different trips with different luggage.

I've never used either service, so I'm just passing on information. There may be other similar services.

Unfortunately, what we do not know is anything about the pre and post-cruise itinerary so there really is no telling, IMO, exactly what sounds best for them unless I missed something in the initial post. We have no idea if they are even flying in and out of Rome for that matter just that they are remaining in Italy post-cruise.

I thought it was pretty clear that they're arriving in Rome and departing immediately on a cruise, then returning to spend two weekd in Italy. They wanted to store some bags while they're on the cruise. No matter where they're arriving and departing, the bon-bags link will have options for pickup and delivery.

Bon Bags is often mentioned on the Tripadvisor Rome forum. Some of the glowing recommendations sound like plants, but some sound like genuine users of the service. As I said, I have no personal experience of the services.

If we take this by the face value, the OP wants less luggage on cruise portion and more after the cruise. This is possible, but it seems to be backwards from other posts I have read at fodors. Most people take far more luggage on the cruise portion, and want less luggage once they are off the boat. Cruise boats are accustomed to passengers bringing several huge luggage per cabin, so it is seems unusual that the OP wants to do the other way.

No clue how you arrived at that figure.

1st 5 hours 6€
next 7 hours 6.30€ (.90€ per hour)
next 12 hours 4.80€ (.40€ per hour)
total 17.10€ for the 1st 24 hours

Even if you assume after the 1st day you are only paying .40€ per hour, that is 9.60€ per day.

The English version of ADR says 6€ per day per bag.

10 euro a day isn't that different from $12 a day. It is $11 today, but exchange rates vary daily and it was about that at the beginning of this year.

Nit-picking - about $12/day is about 9.6 euro a day in my thinking.

9.6 euro x 1.06 = $10.17 plus 3& typical exchange rate = 10.47 $ - OK about was a bit off but I was using an exchange rate a bit higher - what is the difference - $10.50 or $12 a day - either one for two weeks is a substantial sum - $150 or so at least - what's your point - $150 is affordable - well maybe for you but for me the contents of the bag would not cost as much!

Nit-picking IMO. Next week it could be $12 a day - you know that exchange rates fluctuate? About $10-12 a day would be better if you wish.
