Idyllic lake-view lodges, cozy cabañas (cabins), vast estancias (ranches), and inexpensive hospedajes or residenciales (bed-and-breakfasts) are found in towns and in the countryside throughout northern Patagonia. Super-luxurious hotels in Bariloche and Villa La Angostura attract outdoor enthusiasts from all over the world, as do small family-run hostels where backpackers squeeze five to a room. Fishing lodges near San Martín de los Andes, Junín de los Andes, and in the Cholila Valley are not only for anglers; they make great headquarters for hiking, boating, or just getting away. Most of them include all meals and cocktails. Guides are extra. Apart-hotels have small, furnished apartments with kitchenettes. Local tourist offices are helpful in finding anything from a room in a residence to a country inn or a downtown hotel. Advance reservations are highly recommended if you're traveling during peak times (December-March; July-August for the ski resorts). Note: lodging prices include tax (IVA—which is 21%) unless otherwise noted.
