Santo Domingo Pueblo Review

Santo Domingo Pueblo craftspeople sell outstanding heishi (shell) jewelry and pottery, along with other traditional arts and crafts, year-round, but the pueblo's three-day Labor Day Arts and Crafts Fair brings out artists and visitors in full force. The colorful, dramatic Corn Dance, held in honor of St. Dominic, the pueblo's patron saint, on August 4, attracts more than 2,000 dancers, clowns, singers, and drummers. Painter Georgia O'Keeffe supposedly said that the Corn Dance was one of the great events in her life. Still and video cameras, tape recorders, and sketching materials are prohibited. It's quite easy to visit the pueblo as part of a trip to Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument.
