The best place to find information about Everglades National Park's watery western side is at this visitor center in Everglades City, During the winter season, it's filled with canoeists checking in for trips to the Ten Thousand Islands and 99-mi Wilderness Waterway Trail, visitors viewing interpretive exhibits about local flora and fauna while they wait for the departure of a naturalist-led boat trip, rangers answering questions, and backcountry campers purchasing permits. In season (Christmas through Easter), rangers lead bike tours and canoe trips. There are no direct roads from here to other sections of the park, and admission is free to this section of the park only.
