Dedicated to the marine life that flourishes off the Southern California coast, this Frank Gehry–designed center gives an intimate and instructive look at local sea creatures. Head to the Exploration Center and S. Mark Taper Foundation Courtyard for kid-friendly interactive exhibits and activity stations. Especially fun is the "Crawl In" aquarium, where you can be surrounded by fish without getting wet. From March through July the aquarium organizes a legendary grunion
program, when you can see the small, silvery fish as they come ashore at night to spawn on the beach. After visiting the museum, stop for a picnic or beach stroll along Cabrillo Beach.
