One of the most popular Vietnamese restaurants in San Diego, Phuong Trang cooks up hundreds of appetizers, soups, noodle dishes, and main courses, which can make choosing a meal a bewildering process. Waiters tend to steer you to tasty offerings like fried egg rolls, char-grilled shrimp paste wrapped around sugarcane, beef in grape leaves, and fresh spring rolls filled with pork and shrimp. Broken rice and a grilled pork chop make a satisfying meal. The large, relatively spare dining room gets packed, especially on weekends, but service is speedy, if sometimes curt.
