Museum of Photographic Arts

Museums / Galleries, Balboa Park

Fodor's Review:

World-renowned photographers such as Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Edward Weston are represented in the permanent collection, which includes everything from 19th-century daguerreotypes to contemporary photojournalism prints and Russian Constructivist images (many by Alexander Rodchenko). The 28,000-square-foot facility has a state-of-the-art theater for screening cinema classics as well as a learning center. On Thursday nights, the museum is open late for movie presentations and the occasional jazz recital. This cultural gem is among the very best photography museums in the United States.
