Fodor's Review:

Exclusivity and indulgence carry the day here; you can even have someone unpack for you. The 172-acre grounds include a private beach club, an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed golf course, and tennis courts across the street. Rooms have views of either the coast or the lush landscaping; such amenities as CD and DVD players and libraries are among the pluses. The best restaurant is Stonehill Tavern, which serves modern American fare. Can't decide between appetizers? You can order a trio, three small plates, each focused on a key ingredient like lobster or duck. Entrées might include prime short rib with braised potatoes and truffles or shellfish stew with saffron broth.

St Regis Monarch Beach

Overall we loved it. The room was fantastic, the grounds beautiful, the pools great and the beach club incredible. Sure things were a little overpriced but we expect that at a property like the St. Regis. Our only disappointment was with other guests. There were so many wannabes - people strutting around showing off their wealth - or pretending they were rock stars that it really took away from the good time our family was having. When 3 people in a row huffed at the valet "Well we have been waiting for FIVE minutes" i actually couldn't contain my laugh. While you expect a higher level of service at a property like this, people truly expected the impossible and to watch them throw fits about it made me embarrassed for them. While i'd love to go back, not sure if I would due to the "crowd they attract" kind of issues.
