Fodor's Review

The visitor center at Matanzas Creek sets itself apart with an understated Japanese aesthetic, extending to a tranquil fountain, a koi pond, and a vast field of lavender. The winery makes Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon under the Matanzas Creek name, and three equally well-regarded wines—a Bordeaux red blend, a Chardonnay, and a Sauvignon Blanc—bearing the Journey label. No reservation is required for the pairing of small-lot wines and local artisanal cheeses, offered in the tasting room. The winery encourages guests to bring a picnic, buy a bottle, and enjoy the meal on the property. An ideal time to visit is in May and June, when lavender perfumes the air.
