The conversation-friendly combo of sharing-friendly small plates and an extensive wine list make Crush Anchorage's go-to dining venue when you want to discuss adventures already lived or the ones to come. The restaurant could probably coast on that combo alone but, luckily, the owners aren't into coasting. Chef power duo Christopher Vane (nominated for a 2011 James Beard Award) and Rob Kinneen (formerly of Emeril Lagasse's NOLA restaurant in New Orleans) head up an inventive, budget-friendly menu that ranges from $5 plates of blue cheese–stuffed Medjool dates to $8 servings of sherried portobello-and-spinach polenta, and beyond. Though it's more fun to share, diners who prefer a plate of their own can also opt for one of the daily dinner specials. Along with a world's worth of wines, Crush serves a selection of top-flight beers and some seriously beautiful espresso drinks. Housed in a building that could easily be a setting for a 1970s-era sci-fi flick, the interior is far warmer and more inviting than its curvy porthole-ish exterior.
