ABOUT THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Puente la Reina (Gares in Euskera) is at the junction of the two Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes from northern Europe, one passing through Somport and Jaca and the other through Roncesvalles and Pamplona. A bronze sculpture of a pilgrim marks the spot. The graceful medieval bridge over the River Arga was built for pilgrims by Navarran king Sancho VII el Fuerte (the Strong) in the 11th century.
