Why We Like It

You're not likely to forget your in Paris at this old-world charmer, with a decor that conjures the Louis XV and a plum spot across from the city's most famous park.

Fodor's Expert Review

The Luxembourg's old-world charm goes much deeper than its romantic setting in a historic corner of Saint-Germain-des-Prés facing the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens. Spacious rooms, cozy common areas, and service attuned to guests every need all seem to hearken from another time.

Room

Larger-than-average rooms, still sporting this 17th-century building's hand-hewn beams, are comfortably decked out in period furnishings and antiques with lovely accents, like inlaid chests or desks, oriental rugs, opulent fabrics, and traditional lighting. Large windows offer views of rue Vaugirard or a charming cobbled street. Highly recommended for warm weather, the terrace room has its own enormous planted balcony facing the park.

You Should Know Though set back off of busy rue Vaugirard, noise is only an issue with the windows open. If fresh air is a necessity, ask for a courtyard-facing room or terrace.

Bathroom

The hotel's elegant marble baths, with extra large windows to let in daylight, really are lovely, with spacious baths and all the amenities of a top hotel.

Lobby

The cozy lobby has a spacious lounge area in the traditional French style, with a library and a handsome bar. There's also a small outdoor courtyard open in warm weather.

Gym

The tiny gym is fine for your basic workout needs.

Dining

The sunny, well-appointed breakfast room is a cheerful spot for a standard buffet breakfast.

Tip If you feel like breakfast on the fly there are some great choices just minutes away: Pierre Hermé, Paris's most famous pastry shop, is just minutes away, near Saint-Sulpice church at the top of the Rue Bonaparte; and at Gérard Mulot (at 76 Rue de Seine) you'll find all those buttery breakfast pastries you've been dreaming of and coffee to go.

Drinking

The cozy hotel bar wine, Champagne, spirits, soft drinks, or a hot beverage.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The closest metros are the Saint-Sulpice or Odéon stations, and the Luxembourg RER station, just across the park, serves both airports.

Facing the Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris's most iconic gardens, home of the Senat and the marvelous Musée de Luxembourg, you're in the heart of Left Bank life, buzzing with sophisticated boutiques, cafés, and restaurants and close to many not-to-miss sites. An easy walk to two historic churches--the newly restored Église de Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Saint Sulpice--you're also close to the wonderful Musée Zadkine with its charming garden just across the Luxembourg, and 15 minutes from Notre Dame. The flâneurs among us will never tire of the discoveries to be made on foot in this quintessentially Paris neighborhood.

Restaurants

Though cafés and restaurants abound, a quick walk takes you to some very good dining indeed, in all price ranges and peopled by Parisians, not just tourists. On the quick and cheap, the Breizh Café Odéon serves up some of the city's best crêpes along with artisanal ciders, and if you don't mind standing L'Avant Comptroir offers an excellent cheese and charcuterie plate with well-priced wines by the glass. Or, you can sit down next door at Le Comptoir de Relais, a superb neighborhood bistro (go at lunch and get there before noon to assure a seat, it's very popular). Semilla is an absolute favorite for its friendly vibe, fresh and plentiful dishes, excellent wine list, and good-value prix-fixe menu. Next door, Freddy's wine bar is perfect for a glass of natural wine and small tapas plates (all within 10 minutes of the hotel).

Bars

La Compagnie des Vins Surnaturels is a stylish spot for tasting French wines by the glass. For cocktails, try Tiger or the Prescription Cocktail Club, both within a 10-minute walk of the hotel.
