Why We Like It

For this area the hotel is a bargain, and who needs the height of fashion when you can get extra space, plenty of light, all the amenities, and a friendly staff that goes out of its way to make you happy?

Fodor's Expert Review

One of the Astotel group's popular Paris lodgings, the Bradford Élysées follows a winning formula: annex a historic building, create attractive spaces in bright, cheerful colors, offer plenty of perks (free drinks, snacks, and newspapers) and service that goes the nine yards all for a reasonable price. Like Astotel's three other four-star properties around Paris, the Bradford is close but not too close to popular tourist areas, meaning you're out of the hustle and bustle but still near enough to reach popular sites on foot--and discover something new.

You Should Know The hotel's charming period elevator reaches only to the fifth floor (top-floor rooms were traditionally servants quarters). But a graceful winding staircase next to the lift reaches all the way to the sixth floor.

Room

Though elegant in its way, the Bradford foregoes luxury in favor of the more congenial comforts in rooms that are attractive in a way that makes you feel at homel. Large windows flood many rooms with light and higher ceilings add to the feeling of spaciousness (in the two lower-category rooms less so). Handsome woodwork, gilded pictures and mirrors, antiques, and colorful curtains and bedspreads in quality fabrics add brightness and charm. Some rooms retain their original marble fireplaces. The complimentary minibar offers water, fruit juice, and soft drinks.

Tip Some rooms have balconies and/or terrific views, some of a distant Eiffel Tower others of the quiet street and handson Haussmannian buildings. Book directly with the hotel if that's important to you.

Bathroom

Spotless bathrooms offer bathtubs with handheld showers, heated towel racks, and plenty of shelf space. Robes, slippers, and quality bath products are included.

Lobby

Past the reception area, the welcoming lobby, with elegant parquet floors under a partial verrière roof, is a congenial place, where you're not only encouraged but enticed to linger with a bunch of freebies--candy, snacks, daily newspapers and other reading materials, complimentary tea, coffee, soft drinks, and an honor bar in the evening.

Dining

Served in a brightly attractive room overlooking the street, the breakfast buffet is one of the hotel's defining features, overflowing with enough hot and cold choices--eggs and bacon, ham, cheeses, pastries, yogurt, cereal, fruit, you name it--to easily keep you going till dinner.

Drinking

A nice touch and one guest's appreciate the most, the honor bar offers a good choice of wine, spirits, and other drinks in an atmosphere that's comfortable and unpretentious.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

A few minutes from Saint-Philippe-du-Roule metro and a 10-minute walk from Franklin D. Roosevelt metro station.

There are many benefits to not being right on the Champs-Elysées, and this hotel is close enough to offer quick access to tourist sites and shopping while benefitting from relative peace and quiet. If you don't already know Paris well, this is an area to discover. Toward the northwestern edge of the elegant Faubourg St-Honoré (the President of the Republic lives on this street), you'll find some lovely Haussmannian vistas and wonderful smaller museums well worth discovering, including the Musée Jacquemart-André, a great place for lunch or teatime, and the brand new Grand Musée de Parfum. You're also within easy walking distance of the Petit Palais and Grand Palais, and, of course, the Golden Triangle's elegant shopping.

Restaurants

Les Sens Unique is a favorite neighborhood restaurant for their eclectic menu of French classics with a twist, think seafood pasta, snails in garlic butter, or the classic magret de canard with potatoes au gratin. It's best to reserve since its reasonable prices make it a popular choice (5-minute walk). For an excellent seafood plate, Helen, a small, elegant (and higher priced) bistro, is one of the neighborhood's best spots for fresh aquatic delights with excellent wines to match (10-minute walk). For lunch or teatime, the adorable café at nearby Musée Jacquemart-André is perfect (5-minute walk).

Bars

In this pricey neighborhood, picking out a nearby café that appeals to you and settling in for a glass of wine to watch the world go by isn't a bad option. But if it's a more Parisian experience you're after, as well as a good cocktail, you're after we like the sidewalk terrace right on the Champs-Élysées at the newly reopened Le Drugstore, part of the ever-chic Drugstore Publicis shopping complex near the Arc de Triomphe, and the huge terrace at Mini-Palais at the Grand Palais, both with menus created by three-star chef Eric Frechon (10 to 15-minute walk from the hotel).
