Fodor's Expert Review

A prime Left Bank location in an old Parisian mansion, top-notch service, a colorfully chic decor and bright, comfortable rooms are a good start, add to that an elegant Left Bank neighborhood just behind the Assemblée Nationale (French Parliament) and a reasonable rate--especially when you factor in the hotel's generous package discounts--and you've got a five-star hotel that’s perfect for a long stay without breaking the bank.

Tip Be sure to check package deals onliine, which can save you 15-20% depending on the length of your stay.

Room

Each of the hotel's 31 spacious, light-filled rooms has its own character, some cozy and snug, others airy and open with huge windows for light and views. All are decorated in a colorful classic-meets-contemporary design, with plush carpets or herringbone parquet floors, elegant moldings, and Fornasetti wall fabrics, some with original fireplaces.

You Should Know Ceiling heights differ drastically between floors, and some--on the mezzanine and sixth floor one-time servants quarters--can be low. Though particular attention was paid to make these rooms extra charming and cozy, taller guests might find them claustrophobic.

Bathroom

Gleaming modern baths are quite spacious and include all the luxury amenities--lighted magnifying mirror, robe, and slippers, heated towel racks, luxury products--with a bath and/or walk-in shower.

Lobby

The beautifully renovated reception-lounge area has plenty of plush seating--and a well-stocked honor bar--to encourage guests to relax over a complimentary newspaper or a game of backgammon or chess in front of the fire under the gaze of 19th-century oil paintings.

Spa

A small Carita spa offers a limited but high-quality menu of beauty treatments and massages, plus a guests only sauna and whirlpool.

Gym

The small but charming fitness room, lodged under 13th-century vaulted ceilings, offers stationery bikes, treadmills, free weights and a warm-up area.

Dining

A high-quality buffet-style breakfast, with hot eggs or pancakes on request, is served in a beautiful downstairs breakfast room or a continental breakfast in-room. There is no restaurant on the premises, but the hotel does offer a teatime and drinks at the honor bar in the lounge.

Tip If you want to get out for breakfast, nearby Café Coutume is one of Paris's best café-roasters, where you can also get a light breakfast or lunch along with a sublime cuppa.

Drinking

Under the glass atrium ceiling, the hotel lobby bar and tearoom really do inspire one to linger over teatime or a drink. Fresh pastries and a good selection of world teas are available every day.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

A few minutes by foot to the Assemblée Nationale metro station.

The upscale 7th arrondissement has its own quiet character, a mix of bourgeois limestone residences and old mansions that house the French government, along with some of the city's most popular tourist sites: Invalides and the superb Musée Rodin with its lovely walled-in gardens are minutes away, and the Eiffel Tower and Champs de Mars are an easy walk. Though you're far from the crowds of central Paris, this is a touristed area, but its residential status also assures plenty of cafés and restaurants--especially on lively rue Cler (a must-see in the area)--as well as some fine shopping. Don't miss Le Bon Marché, Paris's most stylish department store, a 10-minute walk.

Restaurants

Foodies at the culinary cutting-edge will head directly to David Toutain's eponymous shrine to avant-guard vegetables. Brilliantly conceived and beautifully presented dishes use color, temperature, and texture for utmost enjoyment. For a more prosaic bistro meal, the Laiterie Sainte Clotilde serves up a menu of healthy, satisfying comfort foods along with plenty of salads, fresh juices, and French favorites. For a romantic meal or special occasion, we adore La Table d'Aki, a cozy and refined restaurant headed by Japanese chef Akihiro Horikoshi, a fish specialist, who works his magic for 16 lucky diners from an open kitchen (all within a 5-10-minute walk).

Bars

This is not a big neighborhood for nightclubs, but sipping craft cocktails at The Club (across the esplanade) is an elegant affair, without the steep prices. At Hôtel Cinq-Codet's chic hidden restaurant and cocktail bar, with a wonderful inner terrace, you can enjoy a well-crafted pour any night of the week until midnight (both about a five-minute walk).
