Plavi Podrum Review

Although this is one of the more traditional fish restaurants in Volosko, don't be fooled into thinking it's not classy. The owner has been "Sommelier of the Year" twice in this young century. All the usuals are cooked excellently here for you, but jaja od hobotnice ("octopus egg") is a house special featuring squid, octopus, caviar, mustard, and fresh spinach. The terrace is a little more relaxed than inside.

    Trying the trendy way

    We had dinner here a few years ago and really liked the traditional Croatian menu. Now the menu leans towards trendy modern style cooking with emphasis on presentation.
    Some combinations were good, like fillet white fish, bass tortellini and fish brodetto. But some tasted strange, like risotto with shrimp, strawberry, scampi, mint and champagne. Also, scallop with fish reduction, truffle and coffee powder.
    Prices are high end but careful menu selection should give satisfaction.
