Yosemite to Las Vegas, Mid April

What route would you take from Yosemite to Las Vegas in mid April? We have about 4 days after leaving Yosemite, what would you see and which way? I think one of the routes is probably going to be closed, any comments?

Hwy 120 over the Tioga Pass will more than likely still be closed in mid-April. It's hard to say since we have had no significant snow pack yet this year but I wouldn't count on it being open.

You could exit Yosemite on Hwy 41 driving south and work your way down to Sequoia National Park or continue down 99 and back up 395 to reach Death Valley. Mid-April in Death Valley is shoulder season and it's going to start getting hot there but shouldn't be to unbearable. Lots to do in Death Valley.

It can be done in one VERY long/and VERY boring drive. Since you have 4 days I'd head north along hwy 49 (the Gold Rush towns/village, Columbia State Park, tons of vineyards/wineries and April is an absolutely GORGEOUS time of year in the foothills. Stay one night somewhere betwee Sonora and Plymouth. Then up Hwy 50 to Lake Tahoe, stay 1 or 2 nights. Then down 395 and stay one night in Death Valley. Then a short drive to Vegas.

Head out via Wawona Road to Fresno, then 99 to Bakersfield and then 178 to Ridgecrest and across Death Valley.

I would probably spend the night in Ridgecrest (or Death Valley), then you can see DV in the morning and reach Las Vegas that night.

mlgb - Sure, if they they only had two days. But the OP has 4 days. W/ that much time I would definitely avoid Bakersfield and Ridgecrest - no need to go through these armpits . . .
