Yosemite conditions next 5 days - too smoky?
We are supposed to be in Yosemite starting Tuesday for 3 days. Staying in Foresta and hear the smoke may be terrible for the Valley and hiking. Anyone have insight?

This video link will help give you an idea of the direction the smoke is going (scroll down to map July 20 - hard to see on the small map but Yosemite is just to the NE of the fire:

Another issue has been loss of power to the Yosemite Valley, though I don't know if that continues to be an issue.

Have a look at the webcams posted by the NPS and the timelapse movies on halfdome.net

(the one called Half Dome is from near Yosemite village).

It looks better today but keep an eye on things.
The fire is called "Detwiler Fire" and it affected Hwy 140 west of Mariposa but that road is not a good option anyways because of the slide repair work.
A bigger reason not to go would be the horrible traffic in the Valley IMO even if able to leave your car. If you wanted to hike the trails nearer to Camp Curry be sure to do that early, since the shuttle buses are getting caught up in the traffic jams also.
I was there after the 4th of July and if I had it to do again, I wouldn't even try to get into the Valley. I'd just stop at Tunnel View, go seeBridal Veil Falls, then drive up Glacier Point Road (you have to enter before 10 am with a car otherwise you get put on the shuttles. So try to do that earlier, so you can stop at some of the meadows. I'd say leave the Lodge by 8 am. Stop at both Washburn and the end of the road, you will get better views of the falls and Half Dome, than you can from the Valley anyways. There are several nice hikes up there, from easy to moderate. Also I still recommend driving out via Tioga Pass, also depending on what you've decided re Sequoia. It's worth looking in to where the wildflowers are before you decide where to hike...in early July it was along Glacier Point road.
It will be easy from the Lodge to walk to Yosemite Falls in the afternoon and around the meadows there. If you decide to go over to Mirror Lake/Happy Isles expect delays on the shuttle buses which are also caught up in the traffic jams, so do it early.
