Yet another seemingly endless Hawaii question: TURTLE BAY RESORT since rennovations?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has visited this resort since it's rennovations earlier this year? Reviews weren't so stellar before but the Hotel website looks pretty nice now. We've visited most other resorts and are looking for something different this time. Thanks for any input!

Hi, I spend the day out there. It looks much, much better. And oh have the prices gone UP! They have a much better lobby and lay out. Nice looking restaurants. Great gift shop. The pool area is much bigger with more landscape. I always eat at the outdoor area by the pool overlooking the beach. Nice little putting green. Nice tables, chairs and lounge chairs. It's very nice, not as grand as some on Maui etc. But, it is very nice with a excellent location. They were still working on some spots.

P.S.- if you can watch the Baywatch Hawaii Wedding show that was recently aired it was all done after renovations.

Thanks so much Islandmom. Just as I was hoping. Hubby's friend relocated to Hnl from San Diego and is so happy there. We were planning to visit for a day and head up to the north shore which we've never seen. I'll have to keep an eye out for that Baywatch reunion show! The most imp. thing we're looking for is the beautiful open ocean and Zippy's! LOL

Just returned Jan 2 from 10 nights in Hawaii. 4 on Lanai at Manele which is heavenly and 6 at Turtle Bay which has to be the worst stay of any I have ever had anywhere in the world. Be warned. They may have fixed up the place (but not that much, really) but the downright rude and callous attitude of hotel employees from the night manager to the operators and the bellmen and the housekeepers makes this a horrible place. I spent beaucoup bucks to stay here (too much ---hundreds per night for 6 nights, imagine) and I warn all others , don't throw your money away on a negative experience. I actually had a bellmen scream at me, a maid refuse to open my door even though she recognized me, an offer of a 2 inch foam bed on the floor for a third person in the room and it goes on and on. Stay away. Try the Marriott at Ko'Olina or the Manadarin in Kahala (both on Oahu). ALso the W hotel near Diamond Head. But shun this horrible place. P.S. No turtles ever seen there to boot!

johndarling, sorry you had a dissapointing stay at Turle Bay. We were there December 20-27th and had a wonderful time. With only one exception we found the staff to be friendly and attentive. As soon as we were seated for breakfast they would show with coffee, hot chocolate, etc...they had learned what our family liked and just brought it. We hung out a lot around the pool area and ate there for lunch several days. Again the wait staff was friendly and attentive. Two of us used the spa services and had a wonderful time there. Our teens took the free on-site scuba lessons as well as surfing lessons. All was as advertised. We used the valet parking and they were quick to bring our car each time. On our last day we had an evening flight so they extended our checkout one hour and then also provided us the use of a hospitality room for a 1/2 hour later in the afternoon to shower and clean up before heading to the airport. But best of all was just the beautiful location, relaxing atmosphere, listening to the surf at night, watching the waves and surfers during the day. And yes, we did see turtles there. I would go back in a heartbeat!
