Williamsburg Evening Programs - June 20 and 21
We have two nights and several choices:
In Defense of Our Liberty (7 or 8:30)
Legends, Myths, Mysteries, and Ghosts (7 or 8:30)
Cry Witch (7:30-8:30)
A Capitol Ball (7,then every 20 min. for 1 hr.)
African American Music (7 or 8:30)
Our daughters are 17 and 19. We could go to one program each night, or possibly two programs the second night if that's not too much. Which two (or three) programs are ones we shouldn't miss?

Hi Nyvistor,
Any of these programs would be fun. If your daughters like to participate they might like In Defense of Our Liberty because I believe you get to join in. And I can't imagine any yourg woman not liking the A Capitol Ball. Do they like Ghost stories, then Legends, Myth, Mysteries and Ghosts would be fun. And the beat and melodies of the African American Music would be the perfect ending to an evening.
We also try to have dinner at a tavern before or after an evening program. I can't think of bad combination. No matter what you pick, I'm sure you will have a great time.

Thank you for your quick response and your assurance that all the programs would make for a fun evening's entertainment. It's fine if they're all great and I know our family's interests will guide our decision, but I just wondered if there was one program that was outstanding? Also, several posters talked about a Ghost Tour by Maximum Guided Tours. Is this different than what Colonial Williamsburg offers?

I can't comment on the tours offered by Maximum Guided Tours because I've never taken any of them. They are different in that they aren't "sponsored" by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and aren't part of a ticket purchased through CW. I tend to stick with CW Foundation tours but it is strictly a personal choice of wanting to help fund the foundation. Maybe some of the Fodor posters can shed some light on them for you.
As for choosing just one of the programs my daughter said either Cry Witch or A Capitol Ball. Both will give you and your girls a look into the 18th century.
Have fun!

Thank you for your help. I will get tickets for A Capitol Ball for one of our nights. The other night's program choice is a toss-up. Still undecided about Cry Witch, In Defense of Our Liberty, or Legends, Myths, Mysteries, and Ghosts. (I know this is a small problem in the scheme of things!) Is Defense of Our Liberty geared more toward middle schoolers? (We have a HS Junior and College Freshman) We've been on a ghost walk in Salem, MA and enjoyed it, but not sure if the Williamsburg version will be much different. Is Cry Witch an absorbing play/trial? Because we'll be there during summer vacation I think I need to get tickets ahead, otherwise we would decide upon arrival. Thanks to any and all posters.

Don't even think about it for one minute - go see African American Music! I have sent lots of students to see it and they rave. The Maximum Guided tours Ghosts of Williamsburg is really fun. I love CW, but I find the Max guides to be more energetic. Oh, In Defense of our Liberty is also awesome, but maybe not as fun for girls. Enjoy!
