Which one: Royal Sonesta, Omni, Hotel Monteleone?

Which one: Royal Sonesta, Omni, Hotel Monteleone?
I booked a reservation in July at Montelone (based on the postive reviews here and on tripadvisor.com). However, the other two hotels have received rave reviews as well. What does everyone suggest? (Moteleone rate is regularly $275 a nite, but I got it for $139. Omni gave me a quote of $139 as well). TIA!

I haven't stayed at the Omni, but of the other two, we liked the Royal Sonesta much much better.
There's nothing really wrong with the Monteleone, but seems to have a little "faded glory" feeling.
The Royal Sonesta is just newer and nicer, I feel.
We loved the rooms which open overlooking the courtyard, and on the floor with the pool.
However, any of the three should be fine. After all, they're in New Orleans!

Forget "regular" rates in the summer months of July and August. The $139 rate is pretty much standard at the Monteleone and may even be a little high unless you have a suite or deluxe room.
I like the Omni over the Monteleone or Royal Sonesta but that's just a preference.

Is it a queen room that you have at the Omni? If so your room may be very small with a window looking into an unattractive courtyard. But the room is very nicely decorated and the hotel is terrific. Its location is great - close to everything but not on Bourbon.

Though I've heard nothing but glowing reports of the Omni, we really love the Royal Sonesta. Be SURE and ask for a room overlooking the pool/courtyard, as the ones on Bourbon can be impossibly loud at night. The last room we had at the Royal Sonesta was an inside corner - I think it was a handicapped room - and it was big and very, very nice. Have fun...New Orleans is wonderful!

I think the remark about the Moneteleone being "faded" is a a bit, well, "faded. The hotel went through a multi-million dollar upgrade over the past couple of years. I know because I stayed there a year ago last November and some of the rooms were closed at the time for the final refurbishing. Can't compare to the others, but we loved the Monteleone. Ask for a higher room with a river view.

Help please with lodging for October. All of the hotels that all of the posters seem to like are soooo expensive in October which must be high season. October 18 22. Normally I might wait and see what Priceline has but we are traveling with friends that are not as felxible as we are. Does anyone have any experience with properties in the FG that are either botique hotels or nice ones that we might get for less then $250.00 to $300.00 per night.

As a 4 year native of New Orleans, I love the Monteleone. The Carosel Bar in the lobby is a New Orleans classic. Writers like Tennesee Williams and Truman Capote frequented the Monteleone to drink at the rotating carosel-like bar. It's a beauty. I spent my twenty-first birthday there (only twenty-three now) with a group of friends and we had a lovely time- on weekends the bar draws a crowd of all ages and there is usually a pianist playing on the grand piano in the back. When my parents visit, I always recommend they stay at the Monteleone because it has such a nostalgic feel. They love it- great location. It is a beautiful hotel, and as a New Orleanian, the city itself has a somewhat 'faded' feel- that's part of the charm.

I live on the New Orleans northshore. Of your three, I prefer the Royal Sonesta. The other two are fine, though. When we need lodging in the Quarter, we like the Bourbon Orleans, the Soniat House. Teh Bourbon Orleans is a smaller hotel but the location cannot be beat. For an even more intimate stay, yet more costly, consider the Soniat House. Unless you are with a convention, avoid Canal street hotels as this location will require more walking/taxi. If visiting the area for the first time,DO NOT leave with only having visited the quarter. Venture out to River Road forplantations, St Charles Avenue, Magazine Street for shopping, and if you have a car, visit the northshore of Mandeville, Madisonville, Covington.
