Which Kenai Fjords tour best for kids?
My kids are 5 and 9, so any cruise over 6 hours is not an option for us.
Would we be better off going on the faster boat and going further out (Kenai Fjords Tour) or go slower, not go out as far but have a park ranger onboard and Jr. Park ranger activities for the kids (Major Marine)?
What do you really see on the shorter tours (3 hours or 1/2 day), which goes around the outer part of the bay??
Thanks!

You don't see much on the short tours and I never recommend them. For any significant wildlife, only the 6 hours or longer for me. A great deal depends on your kids- do they get restless?? Not a good idea then as there is no where to go and the boats are all "open", inside and out. Seasick??? Can be an endless terrible endless day. A great adventure for interested kids though.

We went on a charming tour by Renown Charters. It was only 2.5 hours, and even though it was not Kenai Fjords it was wonderful nonetheless. We saw otters, glaciers, mountain goats, waterfalls, and got up close to some killer whales. Remember, on any of these tours, it gets COLD out on the water, so dress warm and it helps to bring gloves. Also, our boat sold hot cocoa for a dollar, which was so nice.

Different responses what you see on the shorter tour, so I'm still confused. If we could see what TCAPP saw, that would be perfect for us. Does it really just depend on the time you go as to how much you can potentially see?

They were lucky- for any significant wildlife, you have to get out of the bay. Ask what the sightings are from the companies??? But for my time- seeing a couple sea otters, just doesn't cut it. Orcas are thrilling but sometimes don't stick around and the sightings are only minutes. They are also a small whale and binoculars are needed in my opinion.

We did the 8 hour Kenai Fjords tour with our 7 year old. It was great and there were plenty of kids of all ages on the boat. We were very lucky and saw otters, killer whales, humpback whales, puffins, birds, stellar sea lions and the Holgate Glacier. My daughter and another kid named Buddy were facinated by all the jelly fish and made a contest out of spotting them. We saw so much that day, the boat stayed out an extra hour longer. For our daughter, it was not too long.
