Which area of Savannah to stay in?

We hope to be visiting Savannah at the beginning of November travelling by Greyhound.
Which is the best area of the city to stay in? We are looking for somewhere that is easy to walk to everything and/or public transport.
We prefer B&Bs to hotels but the area is more important.
I presume that wherever we decide to stay we'll have to get a cab to and from the Greyhound station? That usually happens!
Does Savannah get very booked up in November and are we better to book soon?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Ethne,

The Greyhound station in Savannah unless it's moved is actually within walking distance of the historic district. The historic district is unquestionably where you'll want to be in Savannah since it's quite walkable and enjoyable with the beautiful public squares; plenty of interesting restaurants, historic homes to visit and museums to see within that area. There are plenty of B&Bs to choose from in the historic district; I stayed at the 1790 Inn and felt centrally situated. My uncle stayed at the Eliza Thompson House, which was just a beauty!

Have a great time! Daniel

That's weird. My reply is there but it's not showing up as a reply?

Oops never mind; the problem seems to have been fixed.

Daniel goes places by public transportation. Lots of places. His advice is, I think, completely reliable.

We used to live in Savannah where DH ran a hotel. Very definitely, stay in the historic district--the area is really best seen on foot, IMHO, and is very walkable.

The first week of November the city still has a fair amount of business, but as Thanksgiving approaches, group business drops noticeably. Still, as you prefer B&Bs, and they are normally small, the earlier you make your reservations, the better the chance of getting exactly what you want, where you want it.
