time in savannah
Will be in savannah area for 1 week, all adults. Good place to stay? Is Darien convenient? Or Brunswick? If we stay outside town, will driving to sites nearby be easy? Thanks everyone!

OK,joyce, is it going to be southern advice you want or Savannah? LOL kidding!
Unless you have a special reason for staying out of town, I would recommend a hotel in the Historic District. There are so many nice hotels and B&Bs..you will probably park your car and not get into it again until you leave. You can easily walk the whole area.
We stayed at the Hyatt on River St/Bay St. I would love to stay at the Westin across the river, where you take a water taxi to town. Gorgeous new hotel.
The Hilton looked good as do some of the B&Bs.
Do a text search on Savannah and read the threads already posted.
I will find my list of restaurants if you are interested. When are you going?

Joyce, Gretchen's advice is sound - as lovely as Savannah is, those who have visted numerous times, know this wonderful town recognize, it has some limitations - small and quaint, and very interesting, with some decent restaurants, and the SCAD galleries and shows, and the historic area for walking. But 2-3 days will give you an excellent overview of the city, allowing you to consider G's suggestion of adding in Charleston. Given the historic nature of S, you might consider a good B&B in the Historic District. In any event, you'll enjoy Savannah, so have agood trip. (Restaurants: Elizabeth's and Sapphire Grill come to mind as very nice - resevrations necessary).

If you have a week definitely split it between Savannah and Charlston. Do stay in town when you are in Savannah. We stayed at the Presidents Quarters and found it to be a good value and a good location - off street parking too!
