Which airline is better?
My family and I are traveling to Hawaii early next summer (Jun). Which airline is the best to use? I've heard good things about Delta but heard that American has a habit of losing luggage? Any suggestions?

I travel almost totally on American. They've never lost my luggage. I've flown on British Airways three times and they lost my luggage twice!
If room is important to you, American has more space than Delta.

I fly almost entirely on United. I have only had minor problems. Lost luggage only once, but the bag got returned safe and sound.
I'm not happy with Delta as 130,000+ freq flier miles will expire 12/31/03 and they don't want to report two different account activities that should keep those miles active! We'll see if they manage to put them in withint the next month. Grrrrr
American "ran over" a suitcase of mine and wasn't going to replace it until I wrote to the CEO of public relations. American? Never again! Unless it's an emergency.
This is all IMHO, of course.

I too fly American almost exclusively, but the "more room throughout coach" claim does not apply if you are flying on a Boeing 757 or Airbus A300. Since Hawaii is a leisure destination, you may in fact be on a 757.

American flies 763s to Hawaii, so you will get MRTC. If possible try to get up front as these planes are with the 2 class config. The so-called first/business class is a nice way to get to Hawaii. AA will match or start a premium class fare war on occasion where you could fly to Hawaii for around $1000 per in very comfortable surroundings. You just have to keep an eye on first class fares. If it's not possible, then coach on AA 763 is more roomy than any other product outthere.

Hi AAFrequentFlyer,
I plugged in a June date to Hawaii and it looks like SJC and SFO will be only 757 to Hawaii, therefore LRTC. LAX will have a mix of 757 and 767-300. ORD and DFW will be exclusively 767-300.
Elvis,
Beware if you will be making a connection at one of the west coast airports if you are looking for More Room Throughout Coach

jor, I understand the opinion about Atlanta. While I like the city of Atlanta, I would go to great lengths to avoid that airport.
I can change planes from Delta to Delta and invariably find the connections incredibly long. I'm always at the very end of one concourse, and need to end up at the very end of another one. I have been there when the trams between concourses were broken down and we had to walk. I have been there when at the last minute gates changed and despite the fact that the screens indicated one gate, when I got there, it was now changed to one back where I just came from. Maybe it's just been my bad luck, but I don't think I've ever had an easy connection there!

I am Advantage Gold with American and Silver Medallion with Delta, so have flown a lot with both. I prefer American, esp. if flying coach. Any airline can lose your luggage--has happened to me both on American and Delta, but they have always found it, usually within 24 hrs or less.
If it's not a long flight, I usually take whichever is less expensive. On long flights, I go with whichever I will be able to upgrade on. American has the better ff program in my opinion since you can upgrade any ticket.
I too have had Patrick's experience in Atlanta of Delta changing gates, running to the new gate, and finding it had been changed back to the original--part of the airline's fitness program for customers I suppose.

Ive flown Delta once and once have I had a connecting flight in ATL. The worst experience ever! The airport alone was confusing, but my Delta flights was delayed an avg of 2 hrs each. They kept giving us excuses why we wasnt boarding. finally another plane was brought out. To top it all off, they made us all change seats according to weight. The first thing u see painted on top of the airport roof is DELTA when u landing there. They really dominate that place. Delta sucks either way in my opinion and so does ATL - hartsfield/jackson/whatever name they wanna call it now.
