Where to stay on South Padre Island the week before Christmas?

Once again I find myself with days I have to use before the end of the year. So, we will drive down to the Rio Grande Valley for some birdwatching for my husband, but we would also like to spend two nights on SPI for me to have some beach time (yes, I know it's not summer, but it won't be the midwest winter temps either!)

The last two Novembers we stayed at a Best Western. The second stay was not quite as nice as the first, and it is on the bay side.

I wondered if any of you had any places on the ocean side that you would recommend? I'm not terribly picky, but I do hate a mildewy smell (I think I looked at a room at Bahia Mar that was pretty smelly). Clean, hot shower, that sort of thing is the key thing. I wouldn't mind a condo but don't know that they would be let for just 2 nights.

Price range, up to $125/night would be okay.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Even though we always have a beach house because there are a lot of us, I have always wanted to stay at the Island Inn. www.islandinnpadre.com
I've been to their beach bar, the Wanna Wanna, many times and love it. I wonder if it's open in the winter...

I went with La Quinta. The Island Inn had a lot of really mixed reviews on Trip Advisor (as did LQ but II had more bad ones). The condos I found wouldn't do less than 3 nights.

In any case, I'm hoping for warm weather, but even if it's not, I'll be on the beach, right
