We would like to stay in Nashville to see the sites of the city. The hotels that I see on all of the sites are fairly well priced. I think that we would be better off downtown but we would have access to a car. Any suggestions for a well situated hotel?

Opryland Hotel Hands down!
Opryland is a nice hotel but pricey and it's only close to the Grand Ole Opry, not to the other sites downtown.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Broadway in April and it was fine. Not cheap, but less expensive than the other downtown hotels we looked at. They have an underground parking lot that is convenient.
It is right across the street from the fabulous Union Station Hotel (where I will stay next time if I have the $$$) and about 4 blocks from "The District" where all the famous restaurants, bars, etc., are located. Be sure to eat at Jack's Barbecue on Broadway. It was wonderful and not at all expensive. We also enjoyed lunch at the Wildhorse Saloon.

The West End hotels near Vanderbilt are in a nice neighborhood and centrally located. A Hampton, Courtyard, Holiday Inn and Marriott are all within a couple of blocks with many restaurants in walking distance.
Thanks so much for the quick replies!
We stayed at the Hampton Inn Downtown, which was pleasant and in a location that worked well for us.

I would not stay at Opryland--too far from downtown. The Hermitage is a nice downtown option. Around Vanderbilt, we liked the Loews a lot!
