Where to go in Feb. for 60 degree weather?
This may be a strange question. My husband and I really don't like the hot or even warm sultry weather that so many people seek out in the winter. We are looking for places to go that are more in the 60-65 range. We love to do stuff outdoors - hike, kayak, scenic driving, etc. Any suggestions for the month of February?

Not strange at all, Sue! I would take a look at southeast Arizona, which has the third most temperate climate in the US, after Honolulu and San Diego. There is great hiking and scenic driving to be had in Tucson and points south and east, and other stuff to do has been discussed here pretty extensively. It will NOT be even close to sultry.

Maybe you mean PHOENIX has the third most temperate climate in the US? I'm not even sure that makes sense. Norther Arizona sure isn't temperate. Places like Sedona and the Grand Canyon have daily highs in the mid 80's in summer and daily lows in the teens in winter. A daily max-min flux of 70 degrees throughout the year.
Phoenix peaks at daily high of 105 (July) and daily low of 41 (January), which equals 64 degree flux. (Mid February averages are 70 and 44 for sueoz).
San Diego is very temperate with daily high of 77 (Aug) and daily low of 48 (Jan) for a flux of only 29 degrees. That's consistency.
Seattle's flux is 38, but it's pretty cool in February.
Miami's is 30 (max of 90 in Aug, low of 60 in January, but humid).

South Padre Island or San Antonio, Texas usually has this sort of weather in the winter. Both places are very tourist-friendly and have lots of nice places to stay, excellent restaurants and fun things to do.
February in Texas can be a gamble, though. In the past, I can remember being outside wearing jeans and a T-shirt, and not being cold at all! This year, we had an ice storm at the end of February!! So, do be prepared for the weather.

Ted, I meant Tucson has the third most temperate climate in the US. Temperate means minimal swings in temps over the year, and Tucson fits that bill much better than Phoenix. Btw, I didn't make up that stat, read it in..TA DA...Fodor's!
