What's between Atlanta and New Orleans?
In a few weeks I'll be driving from Atlanta to New Orleans. My plan is to stay overnight somewhere in between. Any suggestions? I'm not looking for a clean boring hotel just off the interstate, but somewhere interesting that makes it worthwhile to stop rather than drive the whole way through.

Montgomery has sites important in the civil rights movement. Mobile has USS Alabama. Biloxi has casinos.
The drive is about 470 miles, so it'd also depend on how much you want to drive the first and second day.

I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Not only do we have casinos, but beautiful beaches, excellent restaurants, museums, and a new water park that is getting rave reviews. We are only an hour and a half or so from New Orleans. Suggestion: Depending on your lifestyle, you might prefer driving a little farther down the scenic route from Biloxi, where the towns aren't as "commercialized", but still have the amenities.
