What is your Most Haunting Experience?

. . .. while traveling, that is. Any ghosts, things that go bump in the night? The older cities seem to always have great ghost stories!

There is no such thing as a ghost and, I regret to report, there is no Santa Claus.

In New Orleans my husband had weird experiences. Creepy feelings and really intense dreams. No actual ghost though.
At the Hollywood Roosevelte we had items disappear and end up in really weird places in the room.
I had a weird experience in Big Sur once...

This was probably about 30 years ago. We had an old 70's dodge van that we had fixed up to be a camper. (our first RV!) Anyways, I remember this clearly. My husband, young infant son and I were traveling from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon on a clear and sunny day. Not a cloud in the sky. We were going though some hilly almost mountain sections just before Flagstaff. We kept hearing this noise. We knew it wasn't lighting, but it would come and go in short burst. It was getting really erie..and my husband finally pulled over and I was ready to grab my son....when DH realized he hadn't turned off the CB radio at the last place we stopped. We were getting transmission noise when others were talking...but for a short time we thought.....there was something supernatural going on!

I used to drive through Bennington, Vermont on my way skiing at Mt. Snow. Passing the Walloomsac Inn is just creepy.

The place is an old hotel, about 50 rooms I think, and it is abandoned except for a one room that always has a light on.

I wouldn't say it's haunting, just creepy. Here's a link to a photo.

Here's a thread in which we discussed this quite a bit (with a link to another discussion on the Europe board):

And as an update, my dad was big on Vegas. I know he's with me whenever I go. Last time I was there, I was playing blackjack, starting to lose. Now, you don't move much while playing blackjack and at that moment, I wasn't moving at ALL. All of a sudden, my bracelet SNAPPED and all the beads went flying. I swear, I wasn't moving! I knew it was Daddy telling me to cut my losses and get off the dang blackjack table.

Ryan, you're right -- that house is downright scary! I can't believe someone still lives in it.

I stayed at the Bourbon Orleans once (Used to be an African Convent and then a Hospital during the Civil War) and had a strange experience there. While taking a nap in the afternoon (too many hand grenades) I kept feeling the bottom edge of the bed go down, as if someone was sitting on it! Spooky. Also, our alarm clock would go off at 4:32 every morning no matter what time we set it for.

MelissaH, thanks for that thread. I have a question for you, based on what you said back then:
("I had to have a "talk" with him and told him that I was the new owner, and he could continue to live with me, rent-free, as long as he kept to himself and didn't bother me or my friends. Or else I would pull out the big guns in exorcism. It's been fine ever since, pretty much.")

Does your ghost still live with you????

There have been some threads about this in the past, try a thread search, good stories.

Two incidents happened to us in Gettysburg. They both have to do with the Jenny Wade house, the only civilian casualty of the civil war. We took a haunted ghost tour and our guide told us that video cameras are known to stop working when trying to film the house. Sure enough the next morning when we tried to film the house in daylight the camera ate our film as soon as we started recording. That never happened before with the camera.

The second experience was when we toured the home and took a photo of the room where Jenny Wade was laid to rest. The guide told us there are aparitians of Jenny Wade on her bed. At the time there was no light from the outside in the room, it was in the basement. When we had the photo developed there is a large triangular light above the bed. The light almost covers the entire bed.

chile, hard to say. He's not bothered me since we had that little talk. Have others come to visit me? Most certainly. (Don't ask me how I know--the stories would get too long.)

Years ago a buddy and I were traveling in the north Ga. mtns and got lost. Sometime after midnight the car ended up in the ditch and we were isolated, lost somewhere on a dirt road. Luckily a full, crisp moon was out so we started walking and after a few miles we heard a vehicle coming our way. What a eerie sight to see dim lights approaching in the still of the night along a deserted road. The truck stopped, an older man stepped out and approached us. His breath came out in misty puffs. I was somewhat scared, I'm sure my buddy was too. All he said was "what cha doin?" We explained what happened, he said no one could get us out till morning. He did say there was an old fish camp nearby that we could probably sleep at. We hopped in the back of the truck and he took us to the place. Led us straight to the room, it was open and told us to stay there; someone would come by in the morning. I asked his name and he said "Henry Holcombe". We thanked him and said good night. We both remarked what a strange man and being that we were extremely tired went straight to bed. Room was very small with concrete floor, but thankfully a couple of very nice patchwork quilts. During the night I was awakened by a noise. Noise continued for a few minutes and stopped. All I remember was heavy breathing and crunching of leaves. Fell back asleep and awoke in early morn mist. The cabin had a screened porch and there was a small table. On the table was a thermos of coffee and some fresh biscuits wrapped up in cloth in a basket! My buddy was standing behind me and we both stood dumbfounded. Oh well we drank the coffee and ate the biscuits! Soon the proprietor came by. We explained what happened, he said thank you for the money we put in overnight box! I told him that we didn't put any money there that a man named Henry Holcombe led us straight to this room and someone would come in morning! Proprietor stood dumbfounded. He stated to chuckle kind of nervous like and then stated that Henry Holcombe had been DEAD FOR 13 YEARS!!! All we could do was swallow real hard, thank the man and high tail it out of there!! We found a tow truck, got a car and the whole way back to Altanta was a conversation I will never, ever forget! Date that this happened: OCTOBER 31,1975
